Village Marriage Course
6 Candle-lit Meals
6 Nights to talk with your partner about what really matters
1 Connected Marriage
What is the Village Marriage Course?
The Village Marriage Course is a 6-week teaching, talking, eating, and homework based course for couples looking for practical support to strengthen their relationship.
Who is it for?
The Village Marriage Course is for any couple who wants to invest in their relationship, whether you have been together one year or 61 years, whether you have a strong relationship or need some work. The course will help you intentionally invest in your relationship, strengthen your communication, and deepen intimacy. For couples who are struggling, the course can provide tools and help identify specific areas to further focus on in marital counselling.
While the course is based on Christian principles, it is designed for couples with or without a church background.
What can you expect?
You will start each evening by sharing a candlelit dinner with your spouse. Each meal consists of 3-courses, non-alcoholic beverages, and dessert. As you eat there will be video-based teaching that focuses on the topic for the evening, which will guide you through exercises that apply the teaching. Background music ensures that you and your spouse can interact with privacy.
Each week you will have homework that will take the teaching to a deeper level. It is recommended that you set aside an hour or two a week to complete the homework as a couple.
Josh Kruse, who is a Registered Psychologist and the Pastor of Counselling at Village Church, co-teaches the course with his wife, Rachael. Their video-based teaching will be supported by marriage mentors who have a wealth of experience and have a passion for coming alongside couples. These mentor couples will be available during each session and throughout the week for additional support as needed. They bring practical skills to building strong, exciting marriages and we strongly encourage you to connect with them throughout the course.
Some topics include:
- Understand each other’s needs – emotionally and physically
- Communicate more effectively – "What do I really mean and what are you really saying?"
- Grow closer by learning methods to resolve conflict and communicate without fear
- Recover from the ways you may have hurt each other
- Recognize how your upbringing and personality affects your relationship
- Develop greater sexual intimacy and methods for developing spiritual intimacy
- Discover how to leverage each other’s "love languages"
- Develop a vision for a marriage that is on mission
The fee is $350.00 per couple, which includes the course workbook, 6 weeks of candlelit meals and beverages, 6 weeks of well-researched practical teaching and tools, and a Couple Checkup assessment (no additional fee) reviewed by a certified Marriage Mentor Couple. The Couple Checkup is an opportunity for you as a couple to understand your strengths and areas to focus on in the course.
