The Hangout for Boys

Boys love adventure! They long to do something that matters, something that will cost them, and something that will leave an impact. As a boy, going to church rarely inspired me. Instead of the thrill of winning, conquering, and overcoming, I was given cute Bible stories in Sunday school. That didn't grip me to the core or give me the thrill of being a part of something bigger than myself.

It wasn’t until my teen years that all of that changed. A youth pastor at my parent’s church began meeting with me on a weekly basis at a local coffee shop. He didn't tell me about a God who came simply to be believed in. Rather, he told me about Jesus who came to set the world aright and would not leave one inch untouched. He inspired me to follow Jesus—who came with a big mission that I could be a part of!

If Jesus came to change everything, then we must invite boys into that adventure and that challenge! They want to be inspired by the grace and mission of Jesus. That’s why I’m excited to announce the launch of The Hangout for Boys.

We've already hosted sessions of The Hangout for Girls and it's been an awesome way for grade 4 and 5 girls to learn and grow beyond Village Kids on Sundays. Now we're excited to do something similar for grade 4 and 5 boys. This is an opportunity for the lessons these boys learn on Sunday to be incorporated into the rest of their week.

The Hangout for Boys exists so that grade 4 and 5 boys can have big thoughts about God that actually inspire them to give themselves fully to the call of the gospel. It's a time for them to have fun together, enjoy the friendships of a small group, and talk about how Jesus changes everything. Beginning Thursday, May 18, The Hangout for Boys will run for six consecutive weeks. We'll meet on Thursdays at 3:30pm so the boys can come straight from school (snacks will be provided).
