Marriage Course
What is the Village Marriage Course?
The Village Marriage Course is a 6-week course for couples looking for practical support to strengthen their relationship. Each class includes video-based teaching, talking with your spouse, coffee with desserts, and some homework!
Who is it for?
The Village Marriage Course is for couples who want to enrich their relationship, whether you have been together one year or 61 years. The course will help you intentionally invest in your relationship and provide tools for strengthening your communication and deepening intimacy.
While the course is based on Christian principles, it is open to couples with or without a church background.
Note: Couples who are very disconnected and/or experiencing significant difficulties in their marriage should seek counselling support instead of or in addition to taking the course. The more work your relationship needs, the more focussed support you need.
What can you expect?
You will be welcomed by the directors of the course and seated next to your spouse. You will follow along in your workbook as you take in the video-based teaching that focuses on the topic for the evening. The teaching videos will walk you through exercises that apply the material. Background music ensures that you and your spouse can interact with privacy.
Each week you will have homework that will take the teaching to a deeper level. It is strongly recommended that you set aside an hour or so a week to complete the homework as a couple.
Teachers
Josh Kruse, who is a Registered Psychologist and the Pastor of Counselling at Village Church, co-teaches the course with his wife Rachael.
Topics include how to:
- Understand each other’s needs – emotionally and physically
- Communicate more effectively – “What do I really mean and what are you really wanting?”
- Grow closer by learning methods to resolve conflict and communicate with greater effectiveness
- Work towards recovering from the ways you may have hurt each other
- Recognize how your upbringing and personality affects your relationship
- Develop greater sexual intimacy and methods for developing spiritual intimacy
- Discover how to leverage each other’s “love languages”
- Develop a vision/plan for your marriage
Course Fee
The fee is $95 per couple, which includes a course workbook for each of you, 6 weeks of coffee and desserts, and 6 weeks of well-researched practical teaching and tools.
Optional: We secured a reduced rate for the Couple Checkup assessment for couples who are part of the Village Marriage Course. This assessment is optional, yet we highly recommend it as it will highlight areas of strength and weakness in your marriage. It is $25 extra and it will be reviewed with you prior to starting the course by one of the director couples of the marriage course who have been trained by Prepare-Enrich. They can help you better understand the results and guide you towards what sections of the course will be most helpful in light of your results. If you would like to do this, email counselling@
