Opportunities:
- Every other Thursday, New Hope residents come together for a community meal in their community space. You and your family/friends/community group can host these by providing and serving food, facilitating games for the kids, and spending a fun evening getting to know the New Hope residents.
- Host a games night with your community! The families, especially the kids, love playing games: sports, smaller stations like spike ball, crafts, bracelet making, etc. Moms also come out to these events and really enjoy the company!
- English tutors are so helpful for residents as they settle to their schools and/or find jobs. This is also a really great way to build friendships with them.
- Adopt a family with your community group. This is a great opportunity to walk alongside a new refugee family as they get settle into their new life here in Canada. This could involve helping them find furniture, write resumes/job search, finding a new place to live after their 18-month contract at New Hope, and ultimately, be a loving and supportive community.
- New Hope recently purchased a second building in New Westminster and it requires significant renovations to create the space they need for community building for the new refugee families! If you are skilled or semi-skilled in trades, your expertise will be very helpful!
