The White Rock Fire and How We Can Help

On Sunday, May 15, more than 100 people were evacuated from their homes in White Rock due to a blaze that took memories, stole belongings, and robbed people of their homes. As local families were forced to find shelter, the community opened up their arms, and many offered help. However, due to the overwhelming damage, those who used to call Five Corners home will have to wait up to two years before returning to the area and many are left in uncertainty.

Here’s how you can help bring hope and certainty to a devastating situation that has left many of our neighbours looking for help:

New clothing – Many families left their homes with only the clothes on their back. They are in need of new clothing, shoes, towels, and bedding. Village Church will have a collection bin available at both our South and North site for donations starting this Sunday. We will not be accepting any used belongings.

Residential rental space – There are many people who will be without a home for up to two years. We are looking for rental spaces, basement suites, apartments, or townhomes that are close to White Rock for six to twelve months. If you’d like to help in this way, contact the City of White Rock’s Recreation and Culture office (604-541-2199).

Financial support – Each of the victims has unique needs, and financial support is greatly appreciated. Donations can be given to Sources Foundation (www.sourcesfoundation.ca) to help our neighbors impacted by the fire.

Village Church has a desire to come alongside those in our communities, and offer real, tangible hope and support in a situation that has left many without. We love White Rock, we love the people of White Rock, and we invite you to share in the opportunity to genuinely show that love to those who have been affected by this fire.
